Conscious, politically aware, dynamic, smooth at times yet forceful at others – this is Hip-Hop on a higher level. This is Mr Free. Inspired by such artists as KRS-1, A Tribe Called Quest and Sizzla, Mr Free's easy flowing style, intellectual slant on world affairs, and passion for the environment brings appeal to people on all levels and from every age group. From his birth in the Bronx, to his transition to upstate New York music remained at the core of Mr Free’s passion. This began to take shape as he got into DJ'ing at the University of Maine. The poetic verse of Hip-Hop was always appealing,, yet it wasn’t until he began teaching poetry in Virginia that he realized the potential of intertwining music with intellect. This was only furthered by way of his global expeditions. (Egypt, Singapore, Jamaica, Hawaii), Each locale offering renewed perspective and inspiration. Given the name Geoffrey from birth, it was after a liberating experience on the island of Oahu, that he became known to his fans as Mr Free, a gifted artist with a positive message. With an already established following, two of his earliest fans were Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti, of the multi-million selling rock group, Creed. Mr Free made his first professional appearance during Creed's "Weathered " tour before a crowd of 20,000 music lovers. His resume also includes tours with Lyricist Lounge and the Paul Reed Smith Band (of PRS Guitars) throughout the U.K.. This connection landed him in Anaheim where he performed at the N.A.M.M. Music Conference. Soon thereafter he joined the PRS Band on their CD entitled, "The New Equation". Since those early beginnings, Mr Free has opened for numberous artsists, including Talib Kweli, Common, KRS-1, Ghostface Killah, and M-1 from Dead Prez, to name a few. Equipped with a wealth of experience, Mr Free burst onto the scene with the first release from his label “Well Rooted Music” entitled “Lay-Up Lines: The Mixtape.” The album achieved great success and laid the foundation for his sophomore project and first full-length album, “Writes of Passage.” A thought provoking collection which addresses the progressive stages of maturity within humanity. Currently residing in Tokyo, Japan, Mr Free continues to share his music and his message globally. Through all his experiences, his passion has remained the same; to empower listeners and do so with a smile. Simply put, his music and his message are a breath of fresh air. Enjoy. |
