Conscious, politically aware, dynamic, energetic, smooth at times yet forceful at others – this is Hip-Hop on a higher level. Inspired by such artists as KRS-1 and Sizzla, Mr Free's easy flowing style, intellectual slant on world affairs, passion for the environment and everyday living brings appeal to people on all levels and from every age group.
From being born in the Bronx, playing the saxophone in the church, to living in upstate New York, to DJ'ing at the University of Maine, teaching poetry in Virginia, to endless travels around the world (Egypt, Singapore, Jamaica, Hawaii), Mr Free's journey's have truly inspired his music. It was after a liberating experience on the island of Oahu, that he became known to his fans as Mr Free, a gifted artist with a positive message. With an already established following, two of his earliest fans were Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti, of the multi-million selling rock group, Creed. Mr Free made his first professional appearance during Creed's "Weathered " tour in front of 20,000 music lovers. His resume also includes tours with Lyricist Lounge and the Paul Reed Smith Band (of PRS Guitars) throughout the U.K.. This connection landed him in Anaheim to perform at the N.A.M.M. Music Conference. Soon thereafter he joined the PRS Band on their CD entitled, "The New Equation". Since those early beginnings, Mr Free has opened for Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, M-1 from Dead Prez, Scarface, Erick Sermon and others. Currently residing in California, Mr Free is ready to share his music and his message with "Lay Up Lines: The Mix Tape". Through all his experiences, his passion has remained the same; to empower listeners with a sense of hope despite the current state of affairs. If you thought Hip-Hop was dead, think again, because Mr Free couldn't have come at a better time. |
