Growing up in Sonoma County, CA (north SF Bay Area), Anne Stafford first started playing saxophone in the Jr. High School Jazz Band. She was greatly inspired by her teacher, the late jazz trumpet player Frederick J. Coleman. She studied jazz under Ray Brown at Cabrillo College and jazz & cultural studies at UCSC. Anne has been playing with the Brazilian band SambaDá since 1998, which has led to a deep respect and passion for the music & culture of Brazil. SambaDá plays clubs and festivals all over the US and has been honored to share stages with artists such as Ozomatli, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Toots and the Maytals, Erykah Badu, Carlinhos Brown, and Olodum among many others. Joining Free and hiphop project Blyndsite in 2010 has given Anne the chance to pursue her love of hiphop, reggae and soul – the band has quickly become her favorite new project!
